Prevention From History Repeating

"Kalamidad Paghandaan: Gutom at Malnutrisyon Agapan"

                The council leads the country in the celebration, in coordination with other government departments. The agency has held theme writing contest in January to come up with this year's theme. Ms. Desiree P. Reyes of Los Baños, Laguna submitted the winning theme selected from among the 304 entries received from all over the country.

The celebration aims to:
1) promote interventions to address nutritional needs in emergencies and disasters including preparedness, response and recovery;
2) mobilize responders particularly the local nutrition clusters and stakeholders to address gaps in nutrition in emergencies response from national to barangay levels; and
3) increase awareness among families and individuals on coping and resiliency strategies to prevent malnutrition and worsening of nutritional status in times of emergencies and disasters.

                 November last year a very strong typhoon came to the Philippines particularly in Visayas. The people in the whole area was unprepared for such a very destructible force of nature. It left millions of people deranged and thousands dead. Until now the whole place is still recovering from  what destroyed it.

               During and after the typhoon, the people went to evacuation centers to find shelter and only relied to relief goods given by the government, private organizations and other people. There was also shortage of food because of transportation so it resulted to diseases and hunger which caused to malnutrition.

                They are spreading this message so that when there is another disaster that strikes this country we would best be prepared.
