• Friedrich Nietzsche

The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.
  • Emmy Rossum

Being yourself is one of the hardest things because it’s scary. You always wonder whether you’ll be accepted for who you really are. I decided to call my record ‘Inside Out’ because that’s my motto about life. I don’t think you ever succeed at trying to be anyone else but who you truly are.
  • Oscar Wilde

Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.

How to Experience The Christmas Feels

Remember The True Essence of Christmas

Though the Church at Rome maintained that December 25th was the actual birth date of Jesus, the most likely date (according to civil and historical records) was sometime around the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles, which was celebrated in autumn. The unanimous adoption of the December date came about as an attempt by the Church to integrate Christian ideals into the Winter Solstice festivals celebrated during that season.
In the East, the Festival of the Invincible Sun was the major winter celebration. In Rome, meanwhile, the Saturnalia literally closed down the region for twelve days. As Christian missionaries ventured into Northern Europe, they were exposed to the Feast of Yule, a widespread solstice celebration for many tribes and clans. While adopting a Christian focus for these festivals, the Church allowed many of the customs and traditions associated with their older significance to remain.
Many ancient Christmas customs survive to this day. Decorations of evergreen wreaths, holly, and mistletoe, along with Christmas trees, are found in many homes during this season. Colored lights and candles are often displayed. Christmas gift-giving is an intimate time for many families. Children's eyes light up at the mention of Santa Claus or Father Christmas. In England, the Twelve Days of Christmas are a time of great banquets, caroling throughout neighborhoods, exchanging presents, and attending parties.

For many people around the world, Christmas is the high point of the Advent season, which honors the birth of the Son of God. It is a joyous time for many Christians as they give thanks to God for His infinite love and mercy.

Gender Equality

Roles We Were Born to Play
By: Jomar Silva

When I was five, I was told that I couldn’t play with dolls because I was a boy. When I was seven, my classmates teased me because most of my friends were girls. When I was 10, boys in the neighborhood bullied me because I was soft and insecure. When I was 12, people told me I shouldn’t cry so easily because it was unmanly.
Ever since I was little, I have heard people talk about women and girls being victims of sexism. It wasn’t until early this year that I realized that I am also trapped in the same narrow-mindedness of society.
Because we think that boys who show their emotions are weak. Because we believe that boys should be athletic.
Because we see men who dress like women as jokes. Because we make fun of guys who are hurt by women. Because we have an ideal body for the perfect man. Because in our mind there is a standard of what a man must be.
Because society believes that men were born to play a certain role and they must act a certain way and must do things the “manly” way.
Men are strong, men are tough, and anyone who acts otherwise is unacceptable. Since childhood, this is what society has told me, this is what people have told me: Anything that I do, anything that I say or feel that does not go with the norms of being a man is distasteful.
But then I started to ask myself: Does being weak or uncertain make me less of a man? Does feeling what I feel diminish my capability and my importance?
For so many years, I have been told that men and women should act a certain way, because that is how it must be, and we must not go beyond those boundaries or we will be outcasts of society.
But then should we all float quietly and willingly to the same river, and end up in the same place? Or can we go against the direction of the world and find our own way?
I would like to live in a world where I can invoke my right as a human being, my right not to be classified in any category, to be free of all social expectations and to be a person of my own.
My worth as a person does not depend on whether I follow the course that many others have taken. I can be an asset to my country and to my generation while still being a person of my own choice.
I have heard a great deal of people talk about the empowerment of women, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone talk about the empowerment of men. We always talk about the rights of women and children, but when it comes to men we talk about their responsibilities.
Many have spoken about feminism, but what about men’s liberation?
In times of war, the world sympathizes with women and children and says that they are victims of violence. But why do we leave out and ignore the men who really felt the gravity of combat? They were the ones in the battlefield; they are the ones who feel the aftershocks of warfare.
A woman crying is conventional, but when a man cries it’s out of the ordinary. Remember that time you saw your dad, your uncle, your grandfather, or any other man you knew shedding a tear? Remember how uncomfortable it made you feel to see them cry like that?
That’s because society has prohibited men from becoming emotional. Because society has made us believe that a man crying is unusual.
Television shows like “American Dad,” “The Simpsons,” “The Cleveland Show,” “Family Guy,” and many others demean the image of men. More importantly, characters like Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin makes a mockery of the role of a father.
Actually, there is little credit that is given to fathers. In today’s generation, many people see the roles of a father as a minor factor in the structure of a family. And a father’s importance depends on how well he can provide for his family.
The world has created a touchstone on what a man should be—the perfect Prince Charming who will sweep ladies off their feet. But what lies underneath the knight’s shining armor is a man who has his own weaknesses and insecurities, a man who feels pain, and a man who is less than perfect.
As a man, I also have the right to be weak, to cry, to be scared, to be uncertain, and to feel lost. Because just like women and children, I am human. A human who is vulnerable like everyone else.
We expect boys to be good in sports just as we expect girls to be good in cooking and cleaning. We applaud working women and congratulate them on their proficiency, but we overlook the men who work, and say that it is just appropriate for them to do so.
We take pity on guys who earn the minimum wage and never make them forget their shortcomings. Most insults directed at men tend to be attacks on their masculinity. And even girls insult guys for being weak.
Sexism is not just an issue for women; men are also a victim of the same crime that is committed by society. This is not a question of dominance but a cry for equality. If we work together, then we can end sexism that hurts both men and women.
Emma Watson, the UN ambassador for goodwill, said in a speech, “Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong… It is time we all perceived gender on a spectrum, not as two opposing sets of ideals. If we stop defining each other by what we are not and start defining ourselves by what we are, we can all be freer.”
A woman must not be limited for being what she is. A man must be able to feel free to show his emotion without restraint.
I’m a man and I consider myself a feminist. Because I believe that women should be as equally respected as men. Because I believe that women should have the same privileges that men have. Because I have come across many strong, capable, independent women in my life, such as my mother.
Because I want my future daughter to have the same opportunities I did. Because I want my future son to know that it is okay to show his emotions.
Because sexism is our issue, too. And because being called a feminist means that I fight, not only for the rights of women but also for the rights of men.
Because it is okay for men to be sad, to cry, to feel unsure, to be emotional, to be vulnerable, to not be good at sports, to not have that perfect body.
And it does not make them weak, or pathetic, or irrelevant. It definitely does not make them less of a man.

What is Climate Change

Our World Against Global Warming

Carbon dioxide and other global warming pollutants are collecting in the atmosphere like a thickening blanket, trapping the sun's heat and causing the planet to warm up.
Although local temperatures fluctuate naturally, over the past 50 years the average global temperature has increased at the fastest rate in recorded history. Scientists say that unless we curb the emissions that cause climate change, average U.S. temperatures could be 3 to 9 degrees higher by the end of the century.
The United States Global Change Research Program (which includes the Department of Defense, NASA, National Science Foundation and other government agencies) has said that "global warming is unequivocal and primarily human-induced" and that "climate changes are underway in the United States and are projected to grow." (http://www.nrdc.org/globalwarming/climatebasics.asp)

When it comes to connecting the dots between climate change, extreme weather and health, the lines are clear.
The earth is saying something with record heat, drought, storms and fire. Scientists are telling us this is what global warming looks like.

It's time to listen – and take action. There's plenty we can do.

Carbon pollution is the main reason our planet is getting hotter, increasing the chances of weather disasters, drought and flood and hurting our health.
There are solutions. For starters, we can cut carbon pollution by reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and increasing our use of clean, renewable energy. And we can implement policies that help us prepare for flooding, drought, storms and other consequences of climate change.
But first, we need national leadership that will stop ignoring what the earth and scientists are telling us about climate change -- and instead start ignoring those who continue to deny it is happening.

My Modern Hero: Superwriter

Here I am again blabbing over the fact that my modern hero or more like heroes are writers, but hey they're just so darn great in every sense and some even bring me with waterworks.

Writers came like centuries ago when written literature became a trend or was invented. So practically writers are ancient but until now they still are part of the spotlight because of their talent in imagining things and putting it into writing. There will be times when I'm out of myself and I read a book specially some contemporary ones and I would just realize that there are lives much worse than mine and I shouldn't be whining and complaining about such things.

There just this way that they do that touches your heart soul and mind and I admire them for that. They're just pure amazing need I say more?

I try to create sympathy for my characters, then turn the monsters loose.
- Stephen King
Writing a novel is like driving a car at night. You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.
- E. L. Doctorow
It is the writer who might catch the imagination of young people, and plant a seed that will flower and come to fruition.
- Isaac Asimov
Begin with an individual, and before you know it you have created a type; begin with a type, and you find you have created – nothing.

REFLECTION

What are the learning/discoveries that I have gained?

The first thing that came in mind when I entered the ICT room is that "Oh thank God, finally some feel of cold air. " Because honestly that time it was really hot and I feel like some fish being dried to the sun, okay that was probably an exaggeration. The ICT this year covers mostly the internet so that was another plus for saying that this subject is really top level awesome. You know the feeling like "Oh yeah I know it I'm an expert at that" yeah that arrogant know-it-all vibe. I probably had that because seriously internet is like the universal language of teens. But when discussions rolled in and the teacher told this and that, I was like "OH SO THAT WAS WHAT ITS CALLED" or "NOW I KNOW". So I basically learned a lot of new things that's really foreign on my "broad" knowledge.

What are the problems/challenges that I have encountered?

Nothing was really challenging until I finished the 1st blog entry because in the second entry I started something really bad, guess what? Yeah PROCRASTINATION that's it. I'm a certified procrastinator to the bones. So that's really just my problem in doing anything. If you asked me to do a task right now, I'd probably send you a mean kind of look on the face or just a glare that may turn you to stone. Nahh just kidding I'm just really a lazy person.

How did I address these challenges?

I don't know why but I'm better in doing my work when I'm rushing it, either it's just a day away or hours away from the deadline. Maybe it's because of the pressure that my mind gets to work thrice the regular or so. So I conclude that I've passed this big obstacle.

Moving on, I will...

I will do my everything I can and just hope for the best. I know this is very cliché but oh well. Plus I think I'm going to try avoid the curse of lazy so that I may pass everything on time and not have one this nights where I stay up all night to do all the requirements and wake up with a set of bloodshot eyes.

Teen's React : SONA 2014

Every last Monday of the 7th month of the year which was in July 28, 2014 the State of The Nation Address is held so that the president can report his administration's quarterly achievements in this way people would know what he has done for the country.

President Pnoy discussed certain budgets the government used to make our lives easier. In his speech he also boasted that the country's economy is now doing good, benefits of the Filipinos raise them from poverty, rehabilitation for the people and places affected by the disasters that attacked the country last year, national security, infrustracture projects and the education aspects are priorities

At the last part of the speech, the president got a bit emotional while defending the Disbursement Acceleration Program or DAP. And used the famous line of his father "The Filipino is definitely worth fighting for."

It is common that every SONA, the President always make promises. Here are the some of the action items of the Aquino government for the next months or year:

  • Laguna Lakeshore Expressway Dike bidding by end of 2014
  • Open alternative roads to EDSA
  • Opening of the Palawan Busuanga Airport
  • Push Bangsamoro Basic Law
  • Ensure enough supply of power to meet the growing energy demand
  • 2.606 trillion for 2015 National Budget

The Protesters

Even though many were glad for his achievements, thousands of people protested Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City toward Batasan Pambansa on Monday afternoon. Calling him the pork barrel king. It shows that clearly not all of us were satisfied with the president's works. But I guess fixing the damage of the past administrations is quite a lot of work and he's not really superhuman so I think he'd done a good enough job as a president.
